Winter Blast

Cost: $115 by Wednesday, January 16 and $135 after January 16

Drop off at 4:30 pm at Valley Church; Pick up at 12:45 pm at Valley Church; Bring a sack supper to eat on Friday

It’s time to get away and spend an entire weekend with other students and staff from the Valley Middle School Ministry. We will drive up to Hidden Acres and spend the weekend playing snow games, attending exciting chapels and creating some really fun memories. Check out the Winter Blast flyer for more info including a packing list.

Parent Connect

Middle School and High School students AND their parents are invited to this special.  Sunday morning program that will replace our normal programming for this week. We will talk about how families can build spiritually influential relationships with people who don’t know Jesus.


Friend Night

Friends are important, especially when you’re in middle school! At Friend Night we will celebrate friendships and talk about how to be a good friend. This is a great chance for students to invite friends who don’t normally go to church.

Night To Shine

Friday, February 8 at Valley Church and the Valley Community Center

Time and location varies depending on service role

Night To Shine is an unforgettable prom night experience for guests who have special needs or disabilities. This is a great opportunity to show God's love through service! Middle school students can sign up to be a pre-prom buddy or part of the paparazzi and grand march.

Double Dog Dare-A-Thon

Wednesday, March 6, 6:30-8:00pm, Valley Community Center

Register when you click on the first dare on March 1, 2, 3, or 4

Students will complete eight super fun, totally crazy (and safe) dares with their friends (or on their own), then take a picture of their completed dare and submit the photo through our website. The dares will only be available online from February 1-4. We'll pick a winner for each dare, and the whole team will win an awesome prize at the Double Dog Dare-A-Thon Party on the evening of Wednesday, March 6!


5th Grade Parent Meeting

Sunday, March 31, 11:00am-12:15pm

Student Ministries Room, No RSVP required

This meeting will be for parents of current 5th grade students, who will be joining the Middle School Ministry in June 2019. Parents will be able to meet middle school staff, learn how students can make a smooth transition into the Middle School Ministry, and ask questions. 5th grade students and younger siblings can attend their age-appropriate Sunday morning 11:00am programming in Children's Ministry during the meeting.


Slipper Formal

Saturday, April 6; 5:00-9:30 pm; RSVP by Wednesday, April 3 

Cost: $15; Drop off and pick up at Valley Church Main Entrance

Students will dress up in formal attire. For example, guys can wear black pants, a button down shirt, and a tie. Girls can wear modest dresses. In addition to being in formal dress, students must wear their flashiest slippers on their feet! Parents are invited to take photos in the Student Ministries Room from 5:00-5:30. After that students and leaders will hop on a bus and eat dinner at the Jordan Creek Mall Food Court. Then we’ll go to Valley West Mall to do a photo scavenger hunt in our formal outfits and slippers!

All middle school students are invited to come celebrate our volunteer leaders. This is a special night dedicated to the adults and high schoolers who have served in the Middle School Ministry this past school year. We love our volunteers!



8th Grade Celebration

All middle school students and leaders are invited to come celebrate our 8th grade students. We will have fun, take a walk down memory lane, and eat a tasty dessert!


7th Grade Camp Day (for students finishing 7th grade)

It’s time for 7th grade students to prepare to be the oldest class in the Middle School Ministry! All 7th graders are invited to spend an afternoon participating in the low ropes leadership experience at Wildwood Hills, a camp about 30 minutes south of Des Moines. Students will go through a variety of challenges that will help them grow their communication, team-building, and leadership skills. Afterward we’ll have a few hours of free time at camp. The cost includes lunch, transportation, the low ropes fee, and a snack.

8th Grade Vacay (for students finishing 8th grade)

Cost: $70/person (Cost covers 2 meals, transportation, hotel lodging, and access to the water park)

It’s time for our 8th graders to have one last hurrah in the Middle School Ministry! We will spend a night at the indoor water park at the Ramada Tropics Resort in Des Moines. We will have large-group discussions that will prepare students for their transition into the Valley High School Ministry (8th Grade Move-Up into High School is on Sunday, June 2). 8th graders will also have the chance to begin connecting with High School Ministry staff.

Move-up Sunday

The Middle School Ministry is excited to welcome our newest members! New students should go to West Central Station at the beginning of the 9:30 service hour on June 2. At some point they will be whisked away by middle school students and leaders to the Valley Community Center. We will make sure the new students receive a warm welcome!


6th Grade Welcome (for students entering 6th grade in fall 2019)

Sunday, June 2 from 11:00am-3:00pm

Drop off and pick up at Valley Community Center

Lunch provided

New 6th graders are invited to a special event just for them (no parents) on the afternoon of June 2! Check-in is at the Valley Community Center and then we will walk across the street to participate in the 11:00 “big church” worship service. After that we’ll hop on a bus for lunch and a special event off-site!
